Schönes Schweizer-Englisch

By hannes @ 22:58 [ Academia ]
Yesterday, after the presentation I gave here at DERI about my favourite semantic project, Fresnel ([fʁɛ nɛl], s'il vous plaît), I had chat on (unsuccessful) entrepreneurship, Google, Stanford and stuff with (the great) Dr. Stefan. All of a sudden, (the great) Prof. Dr. Chris walks by, dropping a remark to me, like:
«Schönes Schweizer-Englisch sprichst!»
And rushed away, smiling. Oh. So der berühmte Herr Professor either made a nice flattering compliment or just tried to provoke quite a bit. I really have to go ask him, it`s bothering me. Can my accent be THAT BAD? :(
(now that's fishing for compliments ;))

We definitely have to! But with you I'd speak French, and then I'd definitely have un accent un petit peu .. germano-paysan :)

Don't know either. But it is quite difficult to spot that as swiss..
When I read the comment of the prof, I first thought of some typical german->english translation errors (peoples).
Or wrong accentuation (hOtel).
(sorry, these are too common mistakes, I don't dare to say that you are doing these, but I cannot come up with more accurate examples, cause, well, I am swiss and am not aware of these :)
