A9 Plugin for Mozilla Firefox

By hannes @ 00:25 [ Developing Software ]
A9 seems to be pretty cool, amazingly enough the results seem to be at least as useful as Google's.
Therefore I quickly hacked together a search engine plugin for Mozilla Firefox.
If you use this browser, you can CLICK HERE TO INSTALL IT.

It's a 2-minute hack -even the icon is crap- but it works for the moment. :)

"Search results enhanced by Google. Results also provided by A9.com, Alexa, and Amazon.com." ;)

Or are you talking about other search features amazon provides? At least I couldn't tell a difference between Google and A9 with the general Web search.

I do know where the results come from, and I do share everybody's privacy concerns. Of course I do.
I only compared Google's results with A9's with some queries for stuff that interests me at the moment. The results were different, A9 displayed far more non-HTML documents, .doc and .pdf. Google probably finds them, too, but there seems to be a slightly different weighting, doesn't it?

Alright, I checked again: In the general case the result set seems to be the very same, although there are slight differences from time to time, as already reported by others ("Safe Search" et cetera).

Thanks, I exchanged the image, it's a .png made of the original favicon.ico now.

Btw, http://mycroft.mozdev.org/ has an "official" plugin now.
